Invariazioni
Performance
**For electric guitar, fan, and real-time sound processing**
The work is centered on a sonic continuum—apparently immutable—generated by a forced airflow directed at the strings of an inert electric guitar. The “variations” within the sound band produced by the instrument are created through electronic processing and routed to four loudspeakers, which trace countless trajectories throughout the space.
The title thus carries a double implication. On one hand, it declares the immobility of the sound presented (the electric guitar produces only the sound of its open strings, set into resonance by the airflow). At the same time, *INVARIAZIONI* suggests a being *within* variations, hinting at possible mutations (organized over time) through the use of a term that represents one of the oldest formal elements in the history of music: variations.
The work can therefore be understood within the traditional framework of “theme and variations,” where the theme is represented by the guitar’s static sound, while the variations emerge from the processing of the sonic “material,” performed in real time by the electronic performer.
